Danielle’s Blessing Dress & Bonnet

One of my best friends was having a 5th daughter and I wanted to make something beautiful for her.  I decided to make this white heirloom dress with pink hand embroidery and eyelet bonnet, which Crystal decided to use as the blessing dress.

Dress made of 100% cotton batiste. Pink hand embroidery around neck, on sleeves, and center hem. Madeira scallops on hem.  click on pictures to see more detail.

Bonnet made with eyelet edged fabric.  Ties attached with pink bullion knots. (sized: newborn)  This bonnet is very small, just right for bringing home baby from the hospital.  I can make a similar bonnet in a bigger size for baby blessings.

About Missy

I'm a wife to an awesome Army vet, and mother to four daughters and three step-sons! I love to sew. I learned to sew in 4H, and from my Oma while staying with her for a week or two in the summers as a young girl. I love to bake desserts. I would love to live on lots of land and own lots of animals. I've always been drawn to nature which has lead me towards a more natural and healthy lifestyle which I'm finally trying to bring back into my life, and those precious lives around me.

I came accross this while looking for a baby blessing pattern that I think is non-existent! I am probably going to modify a popular pattern, but I love your hand embroidery. Did you just stitch wherever you felt it would look good or did you use a pattern? I realize you sell your dresses, but I had really hoped to hand embroider this dress and no one out there seems to have what I want except for you. Also- on the Madeira applique on the bottom of the dress- did you do it the traditional way with a seperate strip of fabric or did you simply scallop the bottom edge, fold it up, and hand stitich it? If you feel like answering this I super appreciate it. Your dresses are beautiful- just what I was hoping to make. Thanks-Whitney
