My Creative Space

Now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for!  A peak into the world of Missy (me)

first, I’m going to show you how clever I am.  This house doesn’t have many places where I could have my “stuff” so we built a wall of shelves dividing the living room and formal dining room in half.  I raised the chandelier because Iwas tired of bumping my head on it, and that’s where my creative space is.

1 looking down the stairs

welcome!

Keep your eyes open and you may see something special that you’ve given to me.

some of my Dad’s artwork hang above my fabric cutting/crafting table for inspiration. .

1 desk

a shoe holder works nicely to hold my sewing notions.  scrapbooking papers and accessories are kept in the drawers and basket.

2sew

scissors are kept on the cutting table in a ceramic flowerpot that I received when one of my girls were born.  colored pencils kept in a mug that my Oma made for me.

2 scissors

pattern boxes are under the table

shelves hold all of my magazines, sewing/crafting books, stamps, some fabric, etc…  all of those white binder looking things are magazine folders I got from IKEA. and yes, they are all full of magazines!

1sew 3

binders that hold patterns that I photocopy from my magazines so I can find them easily

2sew patternbinders

books, stamps, fancy cardstock, and top shelf is patterns,  etc that are in my SHOP.

2sew books stamps

vintage sheet fat quarters, some Heather Bailey pop garden fabric, doll clothes patterns, fairydolls

2 sew shelves

projects I’m working on, ribbons, thread, my pleater, special trinkets, flowers

this smaller shelf  holds all kinds of treasures.

 lace on the bottom shelf,

boxes of bias tape and tread, buttons,

a basket of toys for the kids to play with when they want to be near me,

2sew toybasket

all of my paper punches (MIL sayswho needs to to to the storewhen I have so many! )

2 sew paper punches

little trinkets to make into party loot bags…

2sew 3

don’t forget the pail of wrapping paper

everyone needs a bit of magic and a box full of fabric.  (hehee! don’t let these pictures full you… I’ve got 10 plastic tubs full of fabric in my garage)

Yes, I DO have a computer next to my sewing machine!

My Oma always hung pictures of her family above her sewing machine.  I just love the idea of seeing the ones you love while you are sewing.

NOW FOR A LITTLE ABOUT ME…

I’ve been sewing and crafting all of my life.  I come from a long line of creative people.  As a kid, my siblings and cousins would take turns spending a week at our Oma and Opa’s house where we would sew and craft and play;  I took sewing classes with the local 4H;  my mom would have us do all kinds of crafting including painting ceramics, sewing Christmas ornaments and doll clothes, making playdoh and soap.

In High Shool I drew pictures of friends, and After I got married, I sewed maternity clothes and pillows. After I  had my first child, I started sewing  matching mother/daughter outfuts for us.

Now I do just about everything. I don’t crochet, knit, tat, or cross stitch though so if anyone ever wants to do a trade with me, let me know!!!

I enjoy participating in swaps, and creating heirlooms for babies and children.  I’ve made a few very special outfits for special occasions.  I’m not too good at sewing for myself though… too many alterations.

thank you for stopping by!

I would love and appreciate it if you’d leave me a comment letting me know what you think!

  53. Hello Missy,

I just love creating walls out of furniture! It looks so nice..You have a lovely studio and it’s all so organized. I have a few binders of sewing techniques and patterns from magazines too. It makes it so much easier to find.

If I may ask…where did you purchase your white bookcases that you used to divide the room with? I am still trying to find the right solution for storing some of my fabric in a room off of my studio.

Thanks so much for sharing your creative space. I really enjoyed looking around. :0)

Please if you have a moment come take a look at my “studio in progress”. I’ve just recently moved into my home and have been remodeling for going on 3 months. I’m almost done..(I think!!)

  55. Penny Plum says:

    Hello Missy,
I know I’m a little late in getting around to do my visiting – but I do have a good excuse. This was my birthday weekend and my hunny took me off to Bristol Wisconsin for the Renaissance Faire. I did take my lap top with me but our days were super busy in the 15th century and our evening we wined and dined celebrating my bday. and at night I only had energy left to visit a few party sites a night. I am glad I visited your when I am fully awake as there is so much beauty to behold. Necessity is truly the mother of invention and who uses a formal dining room any more anyway. Since its off your living room you are in the same situation I am – It needs to be organizes and it needs to stay half way neat. You have done a great job in all those areas. congrats. And thanks for coming to see my studio I appreciated the nioce words you left for me.
    Hugs,
    Penny
